Fragrance Free Candles Mean Better Food

Monday, July 13th, 2009

Aroma is one of the foremost factors noticed when preparing a home-cooked meal, and as many of you know, taste and smell are tightly intertwined. Down the hallways, in the foyer, and all the way to the dining room table, delicious wafts of fresh ingredients pleasure both the nose and the mouth.

It is not uncommon to see candles paired with a traditional home-cooked meal, as they offer a unique, calming ambiance and that always-important visual attraction of a flickering flame. All too often, however, scented candles can be found to distract the sense of smell while preparing and eating a labored meal (both at the table and around the home). We’ve found that scented candles can even interrupt the taste buds, sending false signals to the brain from the nose, about exactly what food is being consumed.

We know there certainly is a place for scented candles (such as bathrooms or to freshen a house before guests arrive), but whenever there is food or drink involved the answer is quite clear: Unscented candles = a better dining experience, from beginning to end.

So the next time you decide to invite people over for a nice meal, remember to put the scented candles away for the duration. They may make your house smell fantastic before the guests arrive, but you don’t want them leaving thinking about the smell of your house rather than the quality of your cooking.

black & light®, (www.blackandlightco.com) of Leland, Michigan, a connoisseur candle designer and seller owned by ex elementary teacher Holly Eve, is pleased to announce a supply arrangement with Bullfrog Light Company (www.bullfrogcandles.com) of Charlevoix Michigan. Bill Stewart, Bullfrog sole owner and inventor, who perfected the world’s most unique unscented candle, decided to graciously to share the magical glow of his candles and creation with Holly Eve.

Holly brings a different artistic motif to Bullfrog’s enchanting candle. Her designs prove to be top sellers in many markets around the country including retailers like the Smithsonian Institute Museum Shops and the seventy-five year old Robb & Stucky premium home decor stores located throughout Florida, Nevada and Arizona. Holly worked with Bullfrog creating a new line of products. Her designs proved complex for Bullfrog to manufacture, but Bill Stewart and company were more than up to the task, following Bill’s philosophy, this should be easy. He definitely made it easy for Holly Eve. Her creations employ Bill’s magical, one of a kind glow.

Holly developed an innovative and unique package that is reusable and eliminates the need for wrapping paper when given as a gift. Publications that have featured Holly’s work over the past twelve months include the Palm Beach Post, San Francisco Chronicle, Atlanta Journal Constitution, Dallas Morning News, Minneapolis Star Tribune and a host of mainstream blogs and regional publications. black & light® currently has over a 99.7 % ‘excellent’ approval rating from customers who’ve completed and returned response cards supplied with every internet order.

black & light® candles are 100% handcrafted in the United States in Michigan at Bullfrog’s Charlevoix manufacturing facility. A core value and central to the company’s philosophy, Holly’s seeks to expand and ’share the glow!™’, by giving back to the global community. She currently partners with the University of California Davis ‘Save the Bees’ campaign (research done by the Harry Laidlaw Honey Bee Research Facility at UC Davis), Airline Ambassadors International (http://www.airlineamb.org/), and Rainbows International (www.rainbows.org). black & light® donates proceeds from the sales of candles, and also designs candles to benefit these causes exclusively. black & light® provided at no charge over four hundred candles to the last Airline Ambassadors Global Compassion Event hosted by Ann Curry and Peter Greenberg of the Today Show on NBC at the United Nations building in NYC (see blog spot Global Compassion Ball in NYC).

Additionally, black & light® facilitates the employment of mentally and physically disabled adults who work with their fulfillment partner, Grand Traverse Industries, to complete the company’s packaging and fulfillment. black & light® strives to be both environmentally and socially conscious.

This explains Holly’s own company motto  ’We measure our success by how well we support those in greater need.’

black & light® packaging is 100% recyclable, made with recycled content, and reusable. It is so beautifully designed and crafted it has been considered by many to be a gift in and of itself. Holly’s company embraces the very essence of the ‘Three R’s’; reduce, reuse, recycle.

Holly and her team are forever grateful for Bullfrog Light Company’s cooperation in her venture. Bullfrog’s employees have continually ‘bent over backward’ to accommodate Holly’s difficult design requests. Both sides hope to see this relationship continue to ‘glow’ for years to come.
